二戰結束近八十年的今日，全球社會還在學習如何理解戰爭、衝突之發生和慘痛代價。如何適當保存見證過往衝突的遺址場景轉化為對話、和解之處，而非讓襲產成為記憶戰爭之禁臠，是今日關注暗黑襲產、困難襲產的重點所在。合宜的「襲產詮釋」有助於我們來克服上述挑戰。襲產詮釋特別著眼建立參訪者、接收者和襲產之間的關係。詮釋不是資訊，詮釋應是本於資訊的啟示、揭露。更重要地，襲產詮釋應該要盡可能包含所有持份者的參與互動，讓文化襲產場所不再是靜態存在，而能轉化為有意義的學習和反思場域。納入多元社群參與而有更多豐富生命經驗中的人物關係，能擴充特定專業視角所定義的文化資產價值，由襲產詮釋來促進襲產經營的環境賦使面向。
Nowadays, nearly 80 years after the end of the Second World War, the global society is still struggling to grasp how wars and conflicts occur and how they bring about tragic consequences. The emerging interest in dark heritage and difficult heritage concerns not so much the ways to turn historic sites into slaves of “memory war” as the ways to adequately preserve the sites that bear testimony to the past conflicts and to make them the places for dialogues and reconciliation. “Heritage interpretation” plays a key role in helping us address and overcome the aforementioned challenges. It revolves specifically around the relational trinity of visitors, receivers, and heritage. Interpretation cannot be reduced to information. Rather, it is information-based revelation. More importantly, the process of heritage interpretation should accommodate the participation of all stakeholders, insofar as to transmute cultural heritage sites from static display into realms where meaningful, reflective practices take place. The engagement of diverse communities in heritage interpretation allows the scope and values defined from specific professional perspectives to expand and incorporate more diversified human-environment relations and stories. By doing so, the affordance of heritage can be enriched as well.
